HOJUNG JANG

장호정/HOJUNG JANG작가는 아무도 시선을 주지 않는 ‘하찮은 비닐을’을 소재로 극대화 하는 작업을 통해 사물의 재현을넘어선 사유의 세계로 우리를 이끈다. 사물에서 사유로… 쓰임을 다한 비닐의 주름을 가다듬고, 주름의 흔적을 따라 세밀하고 정갈하게 빛을 입히는 과정은 우리가 주변의 세계를 인식하고 성찰하는 그것과 많이 닮아 있는 것이다. 그리고 이 하찮고 구겨진 비닐은 다시 세상과 우리에게 찬란하고 가슴 설레는 빛을 발한다.

서울여대에서 회화전공(BFA), 숙명여대에서 회화 석사(MFA), 현재 박사과정. ’Stop, Unravel, Absorb’(2016 뉴욕), ’NY Contemporary 8@Shanghai’(2016 상하이), 마니프(2016 서울), ART BUSAN(2016), ‘사물에서 사유로’(2015 한국)를 포함 다수의 개인전과 Art Factory 대안공간 LOOP (2015), New York Town Hall Museum (2015 미국) 등 한국과 미국에서 다수의 단체전 참가. Hojung Jang elevates a daily object from its mundane status as a disposable element of modern life to a substantial proof of existence. Jang traces the seemingly random creases left in an empty plastic bag, coats them with light, and depicts them in a hyper realistic way. Through tracing and coating every crease with light drawn by the hand of an artist, the trivial object becomes recognized as invaluable. This mirrors the discourse and mental process of how we perceive contemporary art. The once-disposable bag serves to visualize and contextualize the sublime meaning contained in the object. Hence, the artwork asks us to reexamine the value of objects in our daily life and art.

She received a BFA at Seoul Women’s University, completed MFA at Sookmyung Women’s University, and currently pursuing Ph.D. She opened a solo exhibition, ‘사물에서 사유로(From Materials to Reasons)’ (2015) in Korea, and participated in group exhibitions as ‘LOOP’ at the Art Factory(2015), New York Town Hall Museum (2015) along with many other shows. She was also rewarded as the 100 artists from ASYAAF(2015).
